Promised Land - Rocksteady TNT
Pray for rain, but the lake has run dry;
The river has turned to stone.
The sun beats down from a cloudless sky;
The cattle are skin and bone.
Then, in the dead of night,
Men come pounding at the door,
Threaten everyone's life
With violence and war.
No food to eat, no sanctuary,
No choice but to move along,
Gather what can be carried,
And walk a thousand miles long.
Children plead with tearful eyes:
"How will we find our way,
Over mountains steep and wide?
How will we survive another day?"
Slowly travel in search of a land,
Masses yearning to breathe free,
Aim for a torch in an outstretched hand,
A shining beacon for all to see.
If they can make their way,
Through the difficult journey,
And face the risks they'll have to take,
They hear they'll be milk and honey.
Through the desert barren and bare,
All forlorn and uncared for,
At last to arrive there—
But no one will open that golden door.
Fellow members of the family of man,
Will you show compassion and love?
Will you extend a merciful hand,
By the glory of God above?
